How to make Metal Detector – Final Year Project

Hi friends, today we are going to build a very useful circuit which is Metal Detector. We all know about Metal Detector equipment which is widely used at security points. Same kind of Metal Detector we are going to build today. Our circuit is more powerful which can detect the presence of metal inside walls. If you want to drill a hole in walls, we can use this Metal Detector to check if there is any metal pipe like gas pipeline or water pipes, etc.

Features of Metal Detector:

  1. Detection Range: 8 cm (3″ approx.)
  2. Power supply: 9V Battery
  3. Power consumption: 30mA max.
  4. Output form: LED or/and Buzzer

Components required:

  1. Coils: It consists of two windings around the ferrite core. Winding L1 has 120 turns and winding L2 has 43 turns. We are using copper wire having 0.3mm thickness.

  2. Diode (D1): 1N4148
  3. Zener diode (ZD1): 3V9
  4. Resistors: R1=330Ω, R2=R3=470Ω, R4=2.7KΩ, R5=10KΩ
  5. Capacitors: C1=1200pF or 3300pF, C2=47nF
  6. Transistors: T1=T2=T3=BC547B
  7. LED (LD1): 5mm red
  8. Trim potentiometers: RV1= 2.5KΩ, RV2=100Ω
  9. Push button SW1

Test and Adjustments:

  1. Connect a 9V battery to the circuit.
  2. Keep the circuit where there is no metal in the vicinity.
  3. Turn preset RV1 fully clockwise.
  4. Turn RV2 fully anti-clockwise.
  5. Depress the push button and hold it during the final adjustments.
  6. Now turn RV1 anti-clockwise till red LED goes out.
  7. Now turn RV2 clockwise until the red LED weakly lit.
  8. Now when metal comes in the vicinity of circuit red LED will be more brightly lit.

You can observe that we have one buzzer in the circuit. This buzzer is optional. If you want the output of the circuit in the form of a buzzer, you can connect the buzzer as shown in the diagram.

Sending SMS from No Signal Area – Mini Project

Hi friends, in previous article we have seen Zigbee and GPS project which tracks a vehicle. Today we will build another innovative electronic project which will send a SMS from No Signal Area. There are many locations where we get poor range or completely no range. So using this embedded system we can send a SMS from such locations. The only condition we need here is, we should have a mobile network at the receiving end of Zigbee module.

This is low cost project and highly innovative. You can build such projects for your final year engineering submissions also.

Sending SMS from No Signal Area

Objective:

The main objective of this micocontroller project is to send a SMS from No Signal area which is also known as Black Spot area using Zigbee and GSM module.

  1. Embedded ‘C’
  2. RIDE to write code
  3. ISP to burn the chip

Description:

As already stated, this project is useful for creating signal, using GSM module we can send SMS through that signal to destination. In this project we are using two different frequencies. Zigbee has frequency 2.4GHz and GSM has frequency 1800 MHz.

Main circuitry of this project contains two embedded development boards. One contain Zigbee and Keypad and other contain Zigbee and GSM. We need to place first board in No signal (Black spot) area. Other development board which contains Zigbee receiver and GSM module is kept in area where there is mobile network.

When you type a message using keyboard and hit enter from No signal area, Zigbee transmitter will send a signal with message to the receiver end. Receiver end of Zigbee also has GSM module which will send that SMS to destination mobile.

Final Year Engineering Projects for Instrumentation Engineering

Instrumentation Engineering Final Year Projects

Front Panel of Temperature Controller

1) RF Based Load Automation for smart home

Nowadays, modern houses and organisations are gradually shifting from conventional control system to centralised control system. This centralised control system make use of RF remote control to operate the equipment.

We can build this centralised control system by use of RF Transmitter, Receiver, micro controller, Encoder, Decoder, Switches and relays. This project costs near around 3000Rs – 4000Rs.

2)   Home Automation using TV Remote

This project looks very interesting and impressive as it involves home automation using our TV remote control. Infrared signals transmitted by remote control will get captured by sensor interfaced to control system. All the loads which you want to automate are connected to control system through relays.

Future scope of this project: You can enhance this project based on radio signal instead of Infrared signal of remote control. This will increase operating range so that you can operate equipment which are far away.

3) Recognition of Vehicle Number Plate using MATLAB

This is also one interesting project for Instrumentation Engineering students. In this project we are using just MATLAB so this project is also cost effective.

Here we capture the image of Vehicle number plate and by use of Image processing in MATLAb we can extract the data from that image. MATLAB will recognise the numbers from number plate and will show it as output.

4) Temperature control system using LabVIEW and Arduino

In this project we make use of LabVIEW and Arduino. To measure the temperature we can use any temperature sensor like thermistor, RTD, etc. We connect these sensors to analog pins of Arduino which will be interfaced to LabVIEW.

We can set our desired logics in LabVIEW to operate the heating elements. These heating elements are connected to arduino through relayes.

List of Final Year Projects for Instrumentation Engineering

Hello friends. It is very important to choose a good project in your final year of engineering. Your project should be attractive, innovative and more important is its output. If you successfully built a project and obtain its output you will definitely get good grades. So always choose a project for your final year which will be implementable (means you can get all its hardware), and you will be able to get its output.

Final Year Engineering Projects

Following is a list of Final year engineering projects for Instrumentation and Control Engineering students.

1) Machine Vision Based Object Sorting

This project is based on Machine vision. You can use a digital camera of your mobile or a separate camera for detecting objects. A conveyor can be used to move objects from one place to other. Whenever defective product or unwanted product is passed over particular point a camera will detect that product and will be sort out. You have to use LabVIEW or Matlab for image processing.

2) Temperature Control System using PLC

PLC is one of the core subject in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. So it will be impressive if you use PLC in your project. To built a Temperature Control System using PLC you can use RTD or Thermistor and a Heater. Whenever temperature rise above predefined level a coolant (water) can be circulated surrounding the tank. When temperature goes below set point a heater will get automatically on. You can use a PID controller for better controlling action than on off control. This is really a good final project for  Instrumentation and control Engineering students.

3) Automatic Bottle filling project using PLC

This is also a good project for fnal year. Its hardware is attractive and use of PLC in the project will impress your external. In this project you can use a conveyor for bottle (cups) passing. IR sensor will detect the presence of bottle. At the same time it will stop the conveyor. By generating a timer in PLC a Solenoid valve will start filling bottle. When timer is completed solenoid valve will be closed and conveyor will get start.

4) Automatic Irrigation System

This is an intersting project and involves measurement of soil moisture using Hygrometer. Hygrometer is easily available sensor or ebay or amazon.  Whenever soil moisture decreases a pump will get start and water will wet soil. Thus no need of human for watering plants or farm. You can use and arduino for analog reading and its digital output pins will operate pump on and off.

5) Home automation using PLC

In this project we can control home appliances like fan, Bulb, etc. using PLC. You can make use of Relays to connect home appliances with PLC.

6)PC Based Wireless transmission of process parameters

This is also a good final year project for Instrumentation and Control engineing students. In this project you can transfer readings of  process parameters like temperature, flow, pressure, etc. from one PC to other wireless. For this you can use ZigBee.

7) Auctioneeing Control System using LabVIEW

Auctioneering Control System

This is really a core instrumentation project. In this project you are going to control the temperature of sytem using auctioneering control system. It means measuring parameters at different location and control action will be taken based on most approriate reading. Same hardware as that of Temperature control system using PLC discussed above can be used. Except PLC you can use LabVIEW and Arduino.
